Have you ever wondered what is most important in the supernatural? Fulfilling a call / destiny or communion with God above all else? Our human minds says it’s most important that we fulfill our call, that we fulfill our destiny and that is important indeed, yet it is not the most important thing you will do in your life, for I ask you, what do you do when you have fulfilled that call or destiny? Die, Sin, or seek Him?
Everyone on this earth has been given a gift by the Lord Jesus, christian or not. Those gifts and calling of God were placed in you before you were born and they are irrevocable (Romans 11:29), and if you are diligent, you will fulfill your calling and gift. The gift could be playing a sport, business, leadership, or communication to mention a few, but they are all given to you by God. Do you know why God put that gift in you? It is to worship Him, it is to bring glory to Him, but you do not have to be a Christian to excel in your gift, and you may be a Christian and excel in your gift and neglect communion with God. Any assignment that is given to you by God regardless of its importance or dimension, it’s fulfillment needs to be born out of your communion with Him, and nothing, absolutely nothing, should replace your intimacy with Him. Revelations 2: 4-6 makes it clear that God’s desire is for you to remain in your first love, because before all the ministry, you started seeking Him passionately and then He gave you the assignment, so the assignment is always secondary and His presence, communion with Him must remain your primary focus. If you have lost it then it is time to return to your first love, it is time to “strengthen what remains and is about to die.”
I have heard many a preacher condemn Elijah the prophet for not fulfilling his ministry, because he asked God to leave earth, yet they are gravely mistaken and do not see heavens perspective on this issue. (1 Kings 19) Let me be frank, the ways of God are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are much higher than ours. (Isaiah 55: 8-9) Per earthly perspective, Elijah went to heaven before he finished his task and it took 3 people to finish what he started. Here’s some insight on the man Elijah, he lived for communion with God and he came to a place when he no longer existed, his thoughts and mind were dead and it was God who lived in him (just like the apostle Paul said in Galatians 2:20). When God answered Elijah by fire, and he killed the 400 prophets of Baal, then later Jezebel contracted to kill him, do you know what that did? It took away his communion with God, he could no longer spend time with God and he realized he could fulfill his assignment, but what was most important (communing with God) he would have missed. So he became upset and depressed and thought he was the only one alive, and that’s when God said you are not alone, I have reserved seven thousand for Myself who have not bowed their knees to Baal. It was about this time too when God had him anoint Elisha to take his place as prophet, to anoint Ben-Hadad to be king over Syria, and Jehu as king over Israel to complete his task. According to human perspective, he failed and he ran away, but look at this again, the assignment God gave him caused him to no longer focus on his communion with God but on his assignment and he went back to God and that’s when God rearranged his agenda so the communion would not be affected.
Always prioritize God’s presence and communion with Him above a gift or calling, above any ministry or assignment. God does not intend you to make anything more important than Him, that is the plan of satan. Remember the devil is astute and he knows true life flows out of communion with God, the kind where he will be unable to have access to you, so he attempts against that communion. If he cannot succeed, his next plan to weaken your communion with God is to have you think the assignment and calling, the ministry are too important as to put on hold to keep seeking God. The questions: what would people think and don’t you know you will be a failure arise to mention a few, but don’t worry because it’s not what people think that counts, it’s God’s presence.
Learn to prioritize the presence of God and you have learnt the greatest secret of the supernatural / supernatural living. It’s not most important that you fulfill a destiny, His presence, His glory is the most important. So here’s another supernatural reality: “you may fulfill your destiny and call, but without the presence of God it does not serve for anything christian or not!” Your destiny and things you do here will end here, what has eternal value is to know Jesus. “This is the life eternal, that they may know You, the only true God (God the Father) and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3).
Jesus died for intimacy with you, the plan of the enemy is to keep distracting you with things so that you never realize that, but learn the secret, Elijah, like Mary sister of Martha, and David chose the best part, to remain in His presence, to have communion with Him regardless of whatever assignment and call they had to fulfill. If they could live that way then so should you. Understand the importance of His presence, His glory, chase after it, don’t relent and never give up, never allow distractions to remove your eyes from Him. Let this be the longing of your heart dear friends, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42. Ever wondered why Hebrews 12:2 says, “fixing our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of faith…” it is because when your eyes are fixed on Him, His eyes are fixed on you and passion is born, and you have eyes for Him alone, while all other things become significantly less important to you, because for Him nothing is more important than spending time with you, and He has already displayed that by coming and dying for you in order to win the right to be the love of your life, and lastly, in Revelations 1:14 John says, “…his eyes were like a flame of fire” and that my brothers and sisters is the fire of passion, the flame of love which becomes ignited in you as you intently look unto Jesus the author and perfecter of faith; that is why David said in Psalm 27: 4, “One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple.”
CHOOSE COMMUNION, CHOOSE HIS PRESENCE, CHOOSE HIS GLORY!
